Nila

Nila is a bright and active 6-year-old girl living in Punalvasal, Tamil Nadu, India. She is in grade 1 and her favorite subjects are language arts, Tamil, and mathematics. Nila loves drawing, running games, playing hide-and-seek with her friend Anishka, and has even won prizes in local running and lemon-spoon competitions. Motivated to stand up for justice, she dreams of becoming an advocate when she grows up.

She lives with her mother, Deepa, and her elder sister, Yazhini, in a brick home with an asbestos and tiled roof. Tragically, Nila’s father passed away in early 2025 following an accident, leaving her mother as the sole provider working as a daily wage laborer. Raising two young daughters on a single, informal wage creates significant financial stress when covering household necessities and school expenses.
