Mirriam

Mirriam is a very sweet little girl from Pungwa Village, a small community in Zambia. She is five years old and currently attends preschool, where she especially enjoys math studies and drawing. After school, Mirriam enjoys playing games and drinking mukoyo, a traditional beverage, with her best friend, Vailet. In her free time, she also enjoys helping her mother with the household chores. Although Mirriam is just five years old, she already has her sights set on becoming a nurse because she likes helping people.

Mirriam lives with her parents and sister in a small home with a thatched roof. The house is in desperate need of repair and it regularly leaks during the rainy season. Mirriam’s father works as a farmer, growing maize for the family’s consumption, while her mother is a hairdresser. Although her mother works long hours, the wages she earns are minimal and not enough to support the family’s basic needs, including the school fees. Being part of the sponsorship program would be a great opportunity for Mirriam as it would not only ease some of this struggling family’s financial worries, but it would ensure she can finish her studies and gain the foundational education she needs to attend post-secondary school and achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.

Sponsorship enables children to attend class every day and have the supplies they need to complete their education, grow up healthy, and achieve their dreams.
