Michelle

Michelle is a very caring four year old living in Mwendalubi village, a small community in Zambia. Michelle is currently in preschool, and really enjoys learning about science. When she’s not in school, you will often find Michelle playing traditional games and cooking with her step-sister, Evelyn. She also really loves pumpkins, especially eating them. While Michelle is still very young, she knows she wants to help others, and has a dream of becoming a nurse so she can help sick people in her community.

Michelle lives with her mother, uncle, and step-sister, and is cared for by her great grandparents, who are small-scale farmers that grow maize to help feed the family. Employment opportunities in the small village are both limited and pay meager wages, making it difficult for Michelle’s great grandparents to cover all the expenses, including school fees. Being part of the sponsorship program would not only ease some of this struggling family’s financial worries, but it would ensure Michelle finishes her studies and gains the foundational education she needs to attend post-secondary school, which will help her to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.
