Agness

Agness is a sweet little girl from Mwendalubi Village, a small community in Zambia. Agness is four years old and is currently in preschool, where she is enjoying math studies. She is also a wonderful artist, and really likes drawing and colouring. When Agness is not in school, she likes to play tag with her best friend, Ethel. She also enjoys helping her mother by fetching water. When Agness finishes secondary school, she wants to become a nurse because she wants to help sick people in her community.

Agness lives with her parents and brother in a two-room home with a thatched roof. Her father is a business man while her mother works as a small-scale farmer, growing maize and groundnuts for family consumption. While Agness’ father works hard to support the family, his wages are minimal and do not cover the basic needs of the family, including the school fees. Being part of the sponsorship program would not only ease some of this struggling family’s financial worries, but it would ensure Agness finishes her studies and gains the foundational education she needs to attend post-secondary school after graduating secondary school, allowing her to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.
