Marilitzy

Marilitzy is a bright 9-year-old girl living in Yapacaní, Bolivia. Preparing to enter the fourth grade, she absolutely loves art class, training in basketball, and playing with her younger siblings. She has a soft spot for bunnies and cats, her favorite color is red, and she dreams of becoming a farmer when she grows up.

She lives in a big, lively household with her parents, two older sisters, and two younger brothers. Her father works hard as a motorcycle taxi driver, while her mother dedicates her time to looking after the children and managing the home. Because income from informal transit work can be highly unpredictable and seasonal, the family faces financial tight spots when trying to cover the needs of five children. Balancing daily grocery and utility costs alongside school supplies and clothing for multiple growing students presents a constant economic hurdle.
