Marie

Marie is a caring 12-year-old from Jérémie, Haiti. Currently in Grade 5, Marie really enjoys her social studies class and reading. She works hard in school because she has her sights set on becoming a doctor after graduating, a career that would allow her to help others in her community. When Marie is not in school or studying, her favourite thing to do is to play hide-and-seek with her friends. Marie is also a big fan of spaghetti, and would gladly eat it as often as possible.

Marie lives with her parents and two brothers. Her father is a bricklayer, while her mother works as a merchant. Although they work long hours, they still struggle with their limited wages to cover all of the family’s daily expenses, including the rising school fees for the children. Being part of the sponsorship program would be a huge opportunity for Marie and provide the family much-needed financial relief. It would ensure that Marie can continue her education and gain a strong foundational education that will allow her to go on to achieve her goals, including medical school one day.
