Mendel

This dedicated 15-year-old is Mendel. He lives in Jérémie, Haiti where he is in Grade 8. He really enjoys school, especially social studies, and always works hard to get good grades so he can achieve his dream of serving his country as a police officer. He is a very hopefully young man, who believes there will be peace in his country one day. When Mendel isn’t in school or studying, he enjoys playing soccer with his friends.

Mendel lives with his parents and has three brothers and seven sisters, although they don’t all live with him. His parents are both small-scale farmers who work tirelessly in the fields each day to support the family. With continually increasing costs in Haiti and the lack of resources, it is challenging for Mendel’s parents to meet they daily expenses, especially the rising school fees. Being part of the sponsorship program would be a wonderful opportunity for this determined young man and would provide the family some financial relief. It would ensure that Mendel is able to continue his studies and eventually achieve his goal of becoming a police officer.
