Lydia

Meet Lydia, a creative 11-year-old from a small village called Mwalubemba in Kasisi Mission, Zambia. She really loves school, especially math and language classes, and is currently in Grade 4. She is learning to read and write in both English and Nyanja and is doing very well.

Lydia has two best friends, Taonga and Faith, and when they aren’t studying, they love to play all types of games together, including their favourite game, net ball. Apart from school, Lydia really likes going to church with her friends and family. When Lydia finishes secondary school, she hopes to eventually become a doctor.

Lydia lives with her mother, brother, and two sisters. Her mother is a single parent that does her best to support the children doing piece work. The work is not consistent and is not enough to sustain the family, although Lydia’s mother always tries to ensure the children attend school regularly. Being part of the sponsorship program would be a huge relief to this struggling family. It would also ensure that Lydia is able to remain in school with all the academic resources she needs to be successful and achieve her goals.

Sponsorship enables children to attend class every day and have the supplies they need to complete their education, grow up healthy, and achieve their dreams.
