Jyoshna

Jyoshna is nine years old and lives in Dabburuvalasa, a small village outside Makkuva, India, where she enjoys celebrating the many traditional festivals. She is currently completing Grade 3, and especially enjoys math class the most out of all the subjects. Jyoshna takes school very seriously and always studies hard because she hopes to become a doctor after finishing her studies to ensure she and her family have a better future. When Jyoshna is not in school, she enjoys playing kho-kho with her friends in the village.

Jyoshna lives with her parents and brother in a small home near a river. Although it is beautiful, the river often overflows, causing flooding that makes life difficult. The small village offers few employment opportunities and there is no regular work, so her father has difficulty finding enough work. Jyoshna’s mother works hard to support the family, but together, her parents’ income is not enough to cover the family’s essential needs, including Jyoshna’s education. Sponsoring Jyoshna would provide her with an incredible opportunity, as it would ensure she is able to finish her studies and gain the foundational education she needs to attend post-secondary school and achieve her goal of becoming a doctor.
