Joan

Joan is a very friendly and happy 12 year old. She and her family live in Tondo, Philippines where Joan attends Grade 6. Joan loves to study and especially likes language arts and literature classes. You will often find Joan playing badminton with her best friends, Yassy, Ethan, Allysa, and Khailee. She works hard at school because she wants to become a teacher to help others learn and to give her family a better future.

Joan lives with her parents, two brothers, and her sister in a small plywood structure with a sheet-metal roof owned by her grandmother. The area is prone to flooding due to improper waste management. Joan’s father is the sole provider and works as a tricycle driver. He often struggles to earn enough money to support the family, especially the school fees for the four children, because of the high price of gasoline and the expensive tricycle he uses. Joan’s mother also requires costly medical check-ups and treatments that cause extra financial strain on the family. Sponsorship would be a great help for Joan and her family and help her to achieve her goal of becoming a teacher.

Sponsorship enables children to attend class every day and have the supplies they need to complete their education, grow up healthy, and achieve their dreams.
