María Camila is a happy and vibrant 9-year-old girl living in Chiclayo, Peru. Currently a fourth grader, she excels in math and science, utilizes an excellent memory to recite poems at school, and enjoys riding her bicycle, dancing, and theater. Driven by her love for education, she dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up.

She lives with her parents and brother in an adobe home within a remote settlement that lacks basic public services like electricity and clean water, leaving the area prone to flooding. Her father works as a carpenter, and her mother sells chicken soup on weekends. Relying on unpredictable, informal income makes balancing daily necessities with the ongoing costs of school a continuous financial hurdle for the family.
