Gladys

Gladys is a very caring 79-year-old woman living in Kimbo, a small village in Kenya. She has six children who are daily labourers and farmers. Some of her family members help care for Gladys but the recent draught has severely affected the crops and the family’s ability to earn income. As a result, they are not able to care for Gladys like they used to. Gladys tries to do some small-scale potato farming but her health is failing, making it difficult.

Gladys lives with some of her family members. She cares for her great grandson, who was abandoned by his parents. Although she finds great joy in looking after her great grandson, it is becoming harder, especially when she cannot earn a living like she used to. Being part of the elder sponsorship program would be a wonderful opportunity for Gladys. It would ensure she is able to live her life with fewer struggles while continuing to care for her great grandson.
