Basilia

Basilia is a hardworking and faithful 71-year-old widow living alone in a brick home with a calamine roof in Yapacaní, Bolivia. Although she is the mother of five grown children, they live in remote areas and are unable to assist her financially. To cover her basic needs, Basilia works clearing cassava plantations—physically demanding labor that is becoming increasingly difficult as she manages high blood pressure and the natural limitations of advancing age.

Despite these daily hardships, Basilia remains deeply grateful for the blessings in her life, including receiving daily meals from a local church soup kitchen and enjoying time chatting with friends in her community. She holds a warm, thankful spirit and holds her future sponsor in her prayers.

Sponsorship enables elders to eat well, access healthcare and medication, and connect socially with a community that fosters a sense of belonging.
