Abdi

Abdi is a friendly 77-year-old man from Juakali, Kenya. He lives alone, apart from his seven goats, which are very important to him. He likes to spend his day watching over them and caring for them. Abdi enjoys talking to his neighbours or meeting with friends in the community so they can share stories. Abdi never had the opportunity to attend school, so he cannot read or write, but he says he has learned much through life experiences, which he likes to pass on to others.

Abdi lives in a simple temporary home made of dirt. He has no family nearby to help care for him, so being part of the sponsorship program would give Abdi an opportunity to be healthier and would provide him with much-needed encouragement and the ability to enjoy life with fewer worries.

Sponsorship enables elders to eat well, access healthcare and medication, and connect socially with a community that fosters a sense of belonging.
