Viviana is a cheerful, warm mother of three from Cochabamba, Bolivia, who loves cooking and spending time with her children, Sofia, Raul Emiliano, and Valentina. She raises them on her own, taking on cleaning jobs, baking treats to sell outside their school, and cooking on weekends at a local eatery, always searching for new ways to provide for her family.
In August, Viviana was travelling between jobs by motor-taxi when it collided with a car, throwing her from the vehicle. She was rushed to hospital, where scans revealed a serious fracture in her left knee. Her doctor determined she urgently needs two surgeries to repair the injury and avoid a high risk of losing the leg.
Viviana raises her children alone, without family nearby to turn to. A close friend and the local Chalice team have stepped in to help care for her children and cover some of her initial medical costs, staying in close contact with her throughout her hospital stay.
Viviana remains hospitalized, awaiting her surgeries and managing significant pain, while worrying about her children at home. Her recovery is expected to take around nine months, including surgery, physical therapy, and a gradual return to walking with mobility aids.
Critical Needs funding will help cover Viviana’s urgent surgeries, the mobility aids and physiotherapy her recovery will require, and food for her children while she is unable to work. This support could mean the difference between keeping her leg and losing it, and between her children waiting at home and being cared for.
Thank you for standing alongside Viviana and her children, helping this devoted mother heal and return home to the family who needs her.
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
