Earlier this year, the family had just stepped out to buy groceries when neighbours alerted them that their small home was on fire, likely caused by a short circuit. With no water source at home to fight the flames, the family could only watch as everything they owned burned. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but they lost their home and nearly everything in it, including important documents and their daughters’ school uniforms.
Kind neighbours have been helping the family with food and clothing, and they now spend their nights at a relative’s home. The local Chalice team has visited the family and already obtained a builder’s quote to begin planning their new home, standing alongside them through this devastating loss.
The family spends their days at the site of the fire and their nights with relatives, doing their best to hold things together despite having lost nearly everything. Despite it all, they remain grateful simply to be alive and together, and hopeful for the chance to rebuild.
Critical Needs funding will help the Aranda family rebuild their home with a proper bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, along with electrical and water connections they’ve never had before. This support will give Guadalupe and Luana a safe, stable place to grow up, and let Pedro return to work with greater peace of mind.
