Most families at the Ternopil Site live in rural areas or remote villages without access to natural gas, relying entirely on firewood for cooking and heating throughout the seven-month cold season. Even for families with
access to gas or coal, ongoing war related supply chain disruptions have driven prices out of reach, forcing most families to rely on wood as a primary or alternate heat source.
To meet this urgent need, Chalice will provide a one-time fund transfer to 97 families with sponsored children to purchase firewood for the 2026/2027 season. While wood prices vary across the region, distribution will be based on home size, with the average family receiving approximately nine cubic meters of delivered, split, and dry hardwood.
The Chalice Site Director will oversee the project with assistance from the Chalice Assistant Site Director and local social workers. They will maintain strict financial oversight and transparent reporting to ensure donor contributions are managed with the utmost care. Sound mitigation strategies are in place to address potential war related disruptions.
Over the years, this vital recurring initiative has provided essential relief to families who would otherwise be unable to heat their homes through the bitterly cold winter. Ongoing assistance is critical for these resilient families.
