In India, tribal communities and families affected by HIV endure extreme poverty, making the safety and dignity of owning a permanent home out of reach.
We are directly addressing this urgent need by helping provide permanent housing to 25 sponsored and one non-sponsored families in Nellore and Makkuva. Identified as families most in need by the Chalice Circle Group, working closely with local communities, they will receive a new brick home that will drastically transform their living conditions.
This project provides a lifelong foundation of security, safety, and dignity for 113 individuals, directly protecting the community’s most vulnerable generations, including 54 elders and 59 children.
The 216-square-foot homes with two rooms and indoor plumbing eliminates the need for public outdoor facilities. Providing families with clean, safe spaces significantly reduces their exposure to infectious diseases, a life-saving necessity for immunocompromised family members.
To ensure long-term sustainability and foster a sense of ownership, these families are actively investing in their own futures by contributing a combined total of CAD $42,920 toward the construction costs.
Implemented in partnership with the Vianney Home Society for Rehabilitation for Handicapped Development and Social Service, masons and contractors will provide the necessary guidance to ensure the project runs safely and on track within its nine-month schedule.
Led by the Chalice site director and Chalice program coordinator, the project maintains strict financial reporting and accountability. Community development organizers provide hands-on teaching and mentorship to families. This approach guarantees transparency, outstanding structural quality, and the highest standard of stewardship for every donor’s contribution.
