Seventeen-year-old Helida is a cheerful and caring girl who enjoys reading storybooks, singing in church, making new friends, and helping her family whenever she is not in school. Despite living with epilepsy for the past two years, she has continued to pursue her education whenever her health allows. However, frequent seizures have often forced her to miss classes, making life especially challenging for this determined young student.

One day, while preparing a meal for her family, Helida suffered a sudden epileptic seizure. During the convulsions, she fell into the cooking fire and sustained burn injuries covering approximately 13% of her body. She was rushed to a nearby health centre for emergency first aid and was instructed to return regularly for wound cleaning and dressing. Unfortunately, her family’s financial hardship made it impossible to continue the recommended treatment. As her wounds worsened, her mother sought help, and Helida was urgently transferred to a larger hospital for specialized care. Doctors treated her burns with surgical wound cleaning, physiotherapy, medications, and a series of medical investigations to better manage her epilepsy. She continues to require follow-up care with specialists, regular wound treatment, and ongoing medication to reduce the risk of future seizures.

Helida’s parents are doing everything they can for their daughter, but the family survives on her father’s modest and irregular income as a groundsman while her mother remains at home caring for their six children. The unexpected medical expenses, transportation to hospital appointments, and specialized follow-up care have placed an overwhelming burden on a family already struggling to meet their basic needs.

Although Helida is now recovering and gradually regaining her strength, her healing journey is not yet over. Support through the Critical Needs Fund would help ensure she can continue receiving the treatment, follow-up care, and proper nutrition she needs to recover fully and safely return to the activities and education she enjoys.

Thank you for your compassion and for taking the time to think about those in need.
