At just 21 years old, Florenz has already become a leader in his community. As the youth chairman in his barangay, he organizes feeding programs, distributes school supplies, invites speakers to inspire young people, and encourages healthy activities by lending sports equipment to local youth. Despite living in a crowded home shared with several extended families and relying on his father’s modest income, Florenz has always chosen to serve others and make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.
Late last year, Florenz developed a persistent fever and a severe cough that refused to improve despite repeated visits to a local clinic. As the illness worsened, he began suffering intense abdominal pain and growing weakness, eventually requiring hospitalization. Doctors diagnosed him with community-acquired pneumonia and, after discovering enlarged lymph nodes, performed a biopsy. The results revealed tuberculous lymphadenitis, a form of tuberculosis that affects the lymph nodes. Left untreated, the infection can spread and cause serious complications. Florenz required strong intravenous antibiotics while doctors investigated the cause of his illness, followed by ongoing tuberculosis treatment that will continue for several months to ensure the infection is fully controlled.
The unexpected illness placed an enormous burden on Florenz’s family. His father earns only a modest income driving a sidecar taxi, and with limited financial resources, the family struggled to meet the costs associated with his hospitalization and treatment. Yet throughout his illness, they remained determined to ensure he received the care he needed, seeking every possible source of assistance while supporting him through his recovery.
Today, Florenz is back home and continues taking his tuberculosis medication as he works toward a full recovery. Support through the Critical Needs Fund would help ease the financial strain left by his hospitalization, allowing him to focus on regaining his strength and returning to the community service that has already touched so many lives.
