Roshini

Meet Roshini, a wonderful 10-year-old girl from Jeyankondam, a small community outside Andimadam, India. Roshini is currently in Grade 5, and she loves literature and language arts, where she is excelling in Tamil. Roshini was very excited when she received first prize in a speech competition. She also enjoys playing kho-kho, a traditional tag-like game. She studies hard with her best friends, Riya and Rakshitha because she has big dreams of becoming a police officer when she finishes her studies, so she can help keep her community safe.
Roshini lives with her parents, brother, and three sisters in her grandparents’ home, as they cannot afford their own house. The home has an asbestos roof and lacks indoor plumbing and a sufficient water supply. Roshini’s father takes care of cattle, but he lost vision in his right eye, so is not able to work regularly. Her mother works as a daily wage labourer on a farm. Although they do their best to meet the family’s daily needs, their minimal wages make it challenging, especially the school fees.
Roshini has been waiting for a sponsor for over a year, so being part of the Chalice sponsorship program would be an immense financial relief for this struggling family and would ensure Roshini is able to continue her studies with everything she needs to be successful and eventually achieve her goal of becoming a police officer.
When a sponsor can no longer sponsor a child, Chalice works to match them with a new sponsor as quickly as possible, so the child does not experience a difference in their support. Chalice buffers the transition period from a limited fund, but for the children, there’s no-one as special as a sponsor!
