Mwikali

Mwikali is a resilient 80-year-old woman living in Kathumbini, Kenya, where she resides in a modest home constructed entirely of metal sheets. Throughout her earlier years, she was a skilled artisan who took great pride in weaving traditional baskets for her home and to sell within her community. Although she still holds a deep love for weaving, severe and ongoing physical challenges have unfortunately forced her to pause the craft she enjoys so much.

As a widowed elder, Mwikali faces significant hardships due to a prolonged illness characterized by constant body pains and burning sensations. While her son works tirelessly to manage the household and find medical treatment for her, the family struggles under severe financial limitations, leaving them unable to afford proper medication or consistent healthcare. The sponsorship program provides a critical lifeline for Mwikali, offering vital access to medical attention, nutritional support, and the essential care needed to bring comfort, dignity, and relief to her daily life.

Sponsorship enables elders to eat well, access healthcare and medication, and connect socially with a community that fosters a sense of belonging.
