Mary

Mary is a joyful and very social 51-year-old woman living in Nanyuki, Kenya, where she resides in a metal sheet home with a metal sheet roof. She enjoys singing and connecting with others, maintaining a grateful heart despite severe health challenges. Following a diagnosis of a brain tumor, she underwent surgery that left her in a coma for two weeks, and she ultimately lost her vision completely. Because of her blindness and ongoing recovery, she relies entirely on medical care, regular clinic reviews, and pain-relief medication.

As a mother, Mary lives alongside her sons, who do everything they can to care for her. Her young sons prepare all of the household meals, guide her safely through basic tasks like washing clothes, and help direct her so she can assist with cleaning utensils, as she is unable to cook on her own. Aside from one son who is still in school, her children work as casual laborers, struggling to make ends meet while balancing the heavy responsibility of Mary’s medical and daily care. Because her family carries the deep burden of her support while facing economic hardships of their own, the sponsorship program provides a critical lifeline, offering essential nutritional support, healthcare access, and the stability needed to ease their daily struggles.
