Mary

Mary is a very ambitious and determined 14-year-old girl from Kokise, Kenya where she is currently in Grade 8. Mary enjoys school, especially her religion and science classes. When Mary finishes school, she has big dreams of becoming a nurse because she wants to help take care of the many sick people in her community. She also wants to be able to help take care of her large family.

Some of Mary’s favourite things to do are participating in school activities and studying with her friends because she is very serious about school. Mary says she understands that education is the pathway to a better future, one that will help break the cycle of poverty for her family.

Both of Mary’s parents work hard but they are not always able to meet their family’s basic needs. With five siblings, a cousin, and a step-sister to care for, supporting the family is a constant struggle for Mary’s parents, who rely on the income they generate from small-scale farming. Sponsoring Mary would be a huge relief for this struggling family and would help to ensure that Mary is able to finish school with a strong educational foundation that will allow her to attend post-secondary education.

Sponsorship enables children to attend class every day and have the supplies they need to complete their education, grow up healthy, and achieve their dreams.
