Meet Maphatso, a very caring five-year-old boy from Pungwa Village, a small community near Lyumbika, Zambia. Maphatso is a very hardworking little boy who really enjoys science class in preschool. He is also a very creative young boy, who loves molding things out of clay. When Maphatso is not in school, he likes to spend his free time with his best friend, Wisdom, playing soccer and other outdoor games. At just five years old, Maphatso already knows he wants to become a teacher because he loves learning and wants to help others learn as well.
Maphatso lives with his parents, brother, and two sisters in a very small home. His father is a small-scale farmer, growing maize and sunflowers for the family’s consumption, while his mother is a trader in the village. The family struggles with their meager income to meet their basic needs, so being part of the sponsorship program would be a wonderful opportunity for Maphatso and a great financial relief for the family. It would also ensure Maphatso has everything he needs to continue his education and eventually achieve his goal of becoming a teacher.
Sponsorship enables children to attend class every day and have the supplies they need to complete their education, grow up healthy, and achieve their dreams.
