Illya

Illya is a smart and sociable 11-year-old boy living in Berezhany, Ukraine. He is a fifth-grade student at a local lyceum, where he performs well in his studies. While he enjoys a variety of subjects, including Natural Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Labour Training, he also has a special interest in home economics. In his free time, he loves painting, playing soccer, riding his bike, and roller skating. Looking to the future, Illya is working hard with the goal of becoming a scholarship student.

He lives with his mother and two brothers in a stone home with a metal sheet roof. His family moved to Berezhany in 2018 and has faced the ongoing challenge of living in rented housing. Because they reside in town, they do not have land to grow their own food, meaning they must purchase all their groceries—a difficult task given the rising prices caused by the war. His mother, who is currently unemployed due to health issues that prevent hard physical labor, works hard to provide for the family through occasional creative work. A steady sponsorship will bring vital relief to their household, ensuring Illya has the support he needs to stay in the classroom and reach his full potential.
