Dmytro

Dmytro is a 12-year-old boy living in Lutsk, Ukraine. He lives with his parents and has a older brother and a sister, who now has her own family. Dmytro is especially excited about computer science and is making good grades, despite having several health issues since birth. Dmytro is also a budding artist, and loves to draw pictures of the fun things he likes to do. He really enjoys helping his parents around the home and hopes to one day be a truck driver. His greatest wish is for his parents’ health and for the war to end.

The family lives in a brick home with a cement roof. Dmytro’s father is waiting for a kidney transplant and is undergoing hemodialysis, among other related treatments. His older brother also has vision-related issues, so the majority of the family’s income goes to medical treatments. While the family lives in a relatively safe part of the country, Dmytro says he often hears raid sirens and missile and drone attacks nearby. Despite the ongoing war, Dmytro still attends school and studies hard, but prays his family will continue to have access to medical treatments. For this family, balancing basic daily necessities, like food and clothing, alongside future early educational expenses, presents a continuous financial hurdle.
