Ngounila Rose has always faced life with quiet determination. Growing up in poverty, she never had the opportunity to attend school and spent much of her childhood helping care for others and supporting her family through hard work. After marrying, she looked forward to building a hopeful future with her husband and welcoming their first child. Despite their limited means, the young couple worked tirelessly through daily wage labour and a small poultry business to provide for their growing family.
That hope was suddenly overshadowed when complications developed during Ngounila’s first pregnancy. In the final weeks before her baby was due, her amniotic sac ruptured prematurely, and doctors discovered that the level of protective amniotic fluid had become dangerously low. This serious condition, known as premature rupture of membranes with oligohydramnios, placed both mother and baby at significant risk of infection and other life-threatening complications. Doctors determined that emergency surgery was the only safe option to protect both lives.
With no savings and no land or stable income, the family had no choice but to borrow money to cover the urgent medical expenses. The surgery was successful, and Ngounila is now recovering at home with her husband, slowly regaining her strength while continuing her treatment. Although they are deeply grateful that both mother and child were safely cared for, the debt incurred during this medical emergency now weighs heavily on a family that was already struggling to meet its daily needs.
Critical Need support would relieve this financial burden, allowing the family to repay the loan taken for the emergency surgery and focus on what matters most—Ngounila’s full recovery and the care of their newborn.
