Twelve-year-old Djeff is an energetic boy who loves playing football with his friends and dreams of one day becoming a doctor. He is currently in Grade 5 and works hard in school, determined to build a brighter future despite the many challenges his family faces. Since losing his father, Djeff has been raised by his devoted mother, who works as a cleaner whenever work is available to provide for him and his sister. Together they live in a modest two-room home, doing their best to get by with very limited means.
While enjoying a game of football with his friends, Djeff fell and suffered a closed fracture of his left forearm. The injury left him in severe pain, with significant swelling and an inability to move his arm. After medical examinations and X-rays, doctors determined that the broken bones could not heal properly on their own. They recommended urgent surgery known as open reduction and internal fixation, a procedure that realigns the fractured bones and secures them with a metal plate and screws to restore the arm’s strength and function. Without timely treatment, Jeff faces the risk of permanent damage that could affect the normal use of his arm for the rest of his life.
As Djeff waits in the hospital for surgery, his mother feels helpless. Having already spent her small savings on initial consultations and medical tests, she has no way to pay for the operation. As the family’s sole provider, her irregular income is barely enough to cover food and basic necessities, leaving this life-changing surgery completely beyond her reach.
For Djeff, this injury has come at a particularly difficult time, as he is in the middle of his school examinations. Without surgery, he risks missing school and losing the opportunity to continue working toward his dream of becoming a doctor. Support through the Critical Needs Fund would provide the urgent treatment he needs, helping him regain full use of his arm and giving him the chance to return to school, recover with dignity, and continue building a hopeful future.
