World Malaria Day highlights the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. It was instituted by WHO Member States during the World Health Assembly of 2007 and is marked each year on April 25.

Malaria is a large concern in many of the countries where we work and through programs like the gift catalogue and Chalice critical needs we work with our site partners to keep this infection under control.
Roselene works hard at our Jeremie sub site in Haiti South as a field worker. She lives in Chateau-Jeremie with her two children, husband, niece and god-daughter. She is well respected at the site and is proud to serve her community with Chalice.
Her husband is an engineer but due to the current economic difficulties in Haiti he has trouble finding work and she is the main breadwinner. The family suffered a blow when she became very ill with Malaria fever for four months, she was so sick she could barely stand. The family had already exhausted their savings treating their son who also had malaria and couldn’t afford treatment for Roselene too. She came to Chalice to ask for help so she could recover and come back to work to support her family. A critical need application was quickly approved and she was sent to the hospital for treatment.
She was given iv fluids for dehydration and medicine to help her recover. She still isn’t back to normal yet but is well enough to work and knows with time she will be strong once more.
“Thank you, so much dear donor, for your help during my period of illness,” said Roselene. “Thanks to your help I was able to get the medical care I needed to recover and I’m feeling much better. May God continue to bless you and protect you.”
