Jhoel is a determined young student who dreams of completing his education and one day supporting his family. Known for his sense of responsibility and perseverance, he has continued to focus on his studies despite the many challenges at home.
As the son of a single mother who works tirelessly to provide for her children—including an older brother with severe disabilities—Jhoel carries both hope and quiet strength within him.
A Hidden Injury That Became Serious
What began as a simple sports activity at school turned into a painful and long-hidden struggle. During a futsal match, Jhoel suffered a blow to his face. At the time, there were no visible signs of serious injury, and the incident was overlooked. But as months passed, he began to experience increasing discomfort. Breathing became difficult as one nostril gradually became obstructed, affecting his daily life and well-being.
Eventually, medical evaluation revealed a fracture of the nasal bones that had gone untreated. The delay had caused internal damage requiring reconstructive surgery to correct his nasal septum and restore proper breathing. The diagnosis brought both relief and concern—relief in finally understanding the cause of his suffering, and concern over the urgency and cost of treatment.
Despite their limited means, Jhoel’s mother made extraordinary sacrifices. She borrowed money and sold belongings to ensure her son could undergo surgery. The procedure was successful, and Jhoel is now in recovery, attending follow-up appointments and slowly regaining his health.
However, this healing comes with a heavy burden. The family now faces significant debt, adding to the strain already caused by ongoing medical needs within the household. With the school year beginning, Jhoel hopes to return to his studies, but the weight of these challenges remains.
