498 children in Wa receive essential health screenings

Health screening is not just a medical necessity but a foundational component of student success. World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on April 7th, by the World Health Organization, as well as other related organizations. This year’s theme – “Together for health. Stand with science” – celebrates the power of scientific collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the planet.

This is practiced by our sites who use health screening to keep children healthy. By detecting and addressing health issues early, it ensures students are physically and mentally prepared to thrive in school and beyond. A comprehensive medical screening exercise was carried out for 498 sponsored children across the Wa Site in six major communities due to support from donors through the gift catalogue.

They discovered and treated 60 children for anemia, 22 with sickle cell, 7 with vision impairments, 5 with ear infections and several with other minor infections and ailments needing antibiotics.

This screening reinforced the need to go into rural communities to conduct regular medical screenings to ensure that any potential health concerns are addressed in a timely manner before it becomes a medical emergency.

Site staff and families send their gratitude to donors for the support to keep their children healthy. The gift catalogue helps in so many ways and is such a great way for sites to get necessary funding to meet the needs of the community.
