Nduku

Nduku is a 91-year-old woman from the Maongoa Primary School neighborhood in Kenya. She enjoys praying and describes herself as outgoing and energetic, despite the challenges she has faced throughout her life.

Nduku has lived with the effects of polio since childhood, which has left her lower limbs very weak. She uses a wheelchair for mobility. She lives in a rural, single-room brick house with a metal sheet roof, together with her family. The household relies on casual labour to meet daily needs, which makes providing for everyone challenging. Even so, Nduku remains strong in faith and grateful for the support she receives. She is thankful for the encouragement and assistance that helps care for her and her family. Sponsorship enables elders to eat well, access healthcare and medication, and connect socially with a community that fosters a sense of belonging.
