Efren

Efren is eight years old and lives in Puerto Guyrati, near Villeta, Paraguay. He is in Grade 4, where he especially enjoys physical education—any chance to move, play, and be part of a team. After school, you’ll often find him drawing or playing soccer with friends in his neighborhood. At home, life is both busy and challenging. Efren shares a small, precarious brick house with a calamine roof with his mother and his three younger siblings. Despite his age, he carries a quiet sense of responsibility, helping where he can and caring deeply for his family. His youngest sister, Alicia, is living with epilepsy and requires ongoing, costly treatment. Daily life in their community is not easy. Without running water, the family relies on the river for their needs. Still, Efren remains hopeful and determined. He dreams of becoming a police officer one day—someone who can protect others and create a better future for his family. Sponsorship enables children to attend class every day and have the supplies they need to complete their education, grow up healthy, and achieve their dreams.
