How Generosity Rippled Throughout a Cañete Community

In the riverside community of Nuevo Imperial in Peru, a beautiful act of kindness unfolded. This town and the wider community are among those involved in the Cañete Sponsorship Program. On this particular day, despite their own financial struggles, facilitators and mothers from the local Lady of Mount Carmel community group “Nuestra Señora del Carmen I”, came together to support an elderly woman living in a very vulnerable situation.

After visiting her home and learning more about her circumstances, these wonderful individuals discovered that she could no longer work because of an accident she suffered in her youth. She shared that her son had been doing his best to support her, although his income was not enough to cover her needs, as well as those of his family.

Moved by her story, the mothers decided they would provide her with essential groceries to help ease her burden — a beautiful gesture that brought her not only much-needed food but also a great sense of hope and comfort.

This meaningful act of unity within the community perfectly reflects what these kind women have learned through the support of the Cañete site, which helps children, families, and communities through sponsorship, workshops, and fellowship activities. Through these opportunities, mothers and group leaders are inspired to put empathy and compassion into action, becoming agents of change within their community.

This story highlights the true effect of the Cañete site and Chalice supporters. Beyond transforming lives directly, this generosity plants seeds of kindness that continue to grow and multiply — impacting generations to come.
