Critical Need: CN-PJL0426

Alexis is only a few months old, a child who should be discovering the world through movement, touch, and the comforting rhythm of his parents’ voices. Instead, his life has begun with an unexpected and heavy burden—one that no family is ever prepared to face.
His parents first sensed something was not right when Alexis did not move like other babies. His tiny body seemed weaker, quieter. Their concern grew when he became seriously ill with a respiratory infection, leading to a long hospital stay. It was during this time that doctors began to search deeper for answers.
The diagnosis they received was devastating. Alexis has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare genetic condition that gradually weakens the muscles by affecting the nerves that control them. This means that simple actions most children learn naturally—lifting his head, sitting, even breathing without support—are constant challenges for him.
Today, Alexis remains under close medical care. His days are filled with therapies designed to help him maintain strength—physiotherapy for movement, respiratory therapy to support his breathing, and careful monitoring to ensure he can swallow and feed safely. Despite these efforts, his condition is progressive, and his little body needs constant assistance to do what others take for granted.
His young parents stand beside him with unwavering love. His mother, who worked hard to build a future in healthcare, and his father, committed to his duties, are doing everything possible to give their child a chance. Yet the reality they face is overwhelming. The specialized equipment needed to support his breathing and sustain his life at home is beyond their reach.
Alexis’s story is one of fragility, but also of hope. With the right support, he can continue receiving the care that keeps him stable, allowing his family to bring him home and surround him with the love he deserves.
In a life just beginning, your compassion can make the difference between uncertainty and comfort, between fear and hope.
