A Life of Struggle in Yuornuur, Ghana
Saamana, a humble peasant farmer from Yuornuur, Ghana is a symbol of transformation and inspiration in his community. After spending most of his life cultivating traditional crops with limited returns and struggling to meet the basic needs of his family, in 2018 he received a gift that changed everything.

A Gift That Changed Everything
Through the generous support of Chalice’s gift catalogue program, Saamana received one acre of cashew seedlings and he was going to make the most out of this precious gift. Though he had never grown cashew before, he embraced the opportunity with hope and determination. With patience and care, he nurtured the trees, learning new skills along the way and dreaming of a better future.
His efforts paid off after a few years. In a recent crop season, Saamana harvested three 100kg bags of cashew nuts! The income from this harvest allowed him to provide his family’s basic needs, a milestone that brought immense relief and pride. But the impact didn’t stop there. Saamana’s success sparked interest throughout the village. Seeing his results, many village farmers have started cultivating cashew themselves, shifting from traditional crops to this promising new venture. Inspired by the possibilities, Saamana has expanded his own cashew farm from one acre to three, positioning himself as a role model in the community.
Inspiring a Community to Grow
Today, Saamana is not only improving his family’s livelihood but also helping reshape the agricultural future of Yuornuur. He remains deeply grateful to Chalice and the donors who made this possible, saying, “This support has changed my life. I can now take better care of my family, and I have hope for the years ahead.”
Thanks to a single gift in 2018, a seed of change was planted in Yuornuur and it is still growing.
