How bicycles boost school success

Many students in Tanzania walk long distances to school, often spending valuable time and energy to get to class. With a bicycle, this challenge would no longer be a daily obstacle, students could spend their energy learning in class. Thanks to the generous gifts through our gift catalogue, 21 students now have an easier and faster commute to school.

“The gift of 21 bright shiny new bicycles has benefited many, in many ways!” exclaims Sister Celine, our Neema site director. In rural Mkongo, Tanzania, where her site runs schools and student hostels, “a bicycle is not merely a pastime toy, but it is an important means of travel to school.”

“This improves their attendance and relieves the worry of parents whether their child arrived at school,” Sr. Celine says.

“Instead of walking long distances to school, a child with a bicycle arrives ready to study, not too tired from the long walk. Thus, bicycles are another important means of improving educational outcomes!”
The whole family can benefit from the gift of one bike,” if they have no other means of transportation to go to the market or hospital,” she says.

“We at the Neema site send our heartfelt thanks to the sponsors who have provided a wide variety of support to children, adults, elders, and families in great need through the gift catalogue program,” says Sister Celine.

“We are gratified with these opportunities to improve the lives of those we serve at the Neema site. Each item has contributed greatly to the quality of life, and on behalf of the many recipients, we express our deep gratitude!” she says, “May God bless our sponsors who bring Christ to the Poor, and the Poor to Christ by responding with such generosity to our many needs!”
