The Philippines celebrates National Nutrition Month every year. This year’s theme was ‘Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat para sa lahat’ which means ‘Through PPAN [Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition], let’s collaborate on nutrition security for all.’
Their celebration focused on promoting balanced nutrition and raising awareness about reducing malnutrition. The Bulacan site celebrated nutrition month with the Chalice family circles and sponsored children. Everyone got a chance to showcase their talents in poster making, cooking, and Zumba dancing competitions.
The Bulacan staff say that the family circles went “all out.”
“The cooking contest brought out some hidden culinary talents in the community, with people whipping up nutritious dishes that left everyone craving seconds,” the staff says.
“Poster-making contests gave the kids a creative outlet to express what they had learned about nutrition. The posters they created were vibrant and filled with deep messages about healthy eating and active living.”
Kerbby is 18 years old and is sponsored through the Bulacan site. Right now, he works as a service crew in a fast-food restaurant in addition to being a second-year college student. He loves drawing in his down time. So, when he heard about a poster-making contest, he knew he would sign up. He entered alongside seven other sponsored artists. And he took home first prize!
“Overall, these activities didn’t just fill the month with excitement,” staff say. “They left a lasting impact by fostering a community-wide commitment to healthier lifestyles.”
