Sponsored children and elder
Chalice has been serving children in the Philippines since 1999. We work in both rural and urban communities.
Many parents did not have educational opportunities. They therefore rely on casual work or traditional occupations for low wages. In turn, they struggle to afford to educate their children. Sponsorship “breaks the cycle” of poverty by supporting children to complete their education until high school graduation, at a minimum.
Most urban-dwelling families live in make-shift homes, vulnerable to fire. Rural families are prone to natural disasters, especially typhoons. Our partners work to bolster parents’ abilities to generate income and take leadership in their communities, as well as building physical infrastructure before and after extreme weather events and natural disasters.
Stunting, malnutrition, and anemia are pervasive in our Filipino sites. Our partners run school and community feeding programs to improve the children’s nutrition status and reduce anemia.
