Help Mercy Receive the Surgery She Needs to Live Without Pain Kawambwa, Zambia

Funding request: $1,747.70 CAD

Critical Need: CN-ZKK0226

Mercy is a bright and friendly 17-year-old who enjoys spending time with her friends and attending youth activities at church. She is currently in Grade 10 after successfully passing her national examinations, and she dreams of continuing her education and building a hopeful future. Mercy comes from a large family of eight children who live together in a modest iron-roofed home in rural Zambia. Her parents rely on small-scale farming to provide for the family, but their income is unpredictable and often insufficient to meet even their basic needs.

In June of last year, Mercy began experiencing persistent itching and discomfort in one of her breasts. At first, the symptoms seemed minor, but over time they worsened. She began to notice small amounts of bleeding and increasing pain, especially during cold weather. Concerned about her condition, Mercy visited a local clinic where medical tests revealed that she was suffering from fibroadenoma and acute mastitis, conditions that cause painful swelling and infection in the breast.

Since then, Mercy has undergone several medical consultations and follow-up reviews. Doctors prescribed medications and advised warm compresses to reduce inflammation, but the condition has not fully resolved. After further examinations, including an ultrasound scan, doctors recommended that Mercy undergo surgery to remove the mass and prevent further complications.

At present, Mercy remains at home while continuing her treatment and waiting for the scheduled surgical procedure. Unfortunately, the repeated medical visits and preparations for surgery have created a heavy burden for her family. With many children to care for and only a small farming income, her parents are struggling to gather the resources needed for transportation, medical reviews, and the upcoming procedure.

This support would help Mercy access the surgery she urgently needs and relieve her family from the difficult financial strain they are facing. Most importantly, it would allow her to recover her health so she can return to school, participate in the activities she loves, and continue growing into the hopeful young woman she dreams of becoming.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity. Your willingness to take time to think about those facing difficult circumstances brings hope and comfort to families who feel overwhelmed by challenges.
