How a Sponsorship Program Helped a Goa Family Build Financial Stability

Moving to Goa in Search of a Better Life

Kempanna and his wife Geeta moved to Goa, India, in search of a better life. Together they made their home in a small rented room, Kempanna worked as a daily labourer and Geeta stood by him as a strong pillar of support, caring for the family and encouraging him through the daily struggles of life.

With the limited income from labour work, meeting the family’s needs was difficult. Paying rent and managing school expenses was a constant worry. In 2017, their elder daughter was enrolled in the sponsorship program, which brought much-needed relief to the family.

How Sponsorship Changed Their Lives

Through sponsorship, the family were able to provide for their children’s education and Geeta became the member of a family circle. During the meetings, she often heard them encouraging the women to, “do something that will make you independent.” These words deeply inspired her.

A Family Living with Dignity and Hope

Determined to bring change, Geeta began saving a small amount each day from her household budget. With her little savings and encouragement from the family circle, she started a small roadside vegetable stall. It has now been six months since she began her business. Every evening Geeta manages her vegetable cart with dedication. Her husband and daughters help her set up and wind up the stall daily, and when she is unwell or delayed, her daughters confidently take over. Today, the family is more financially stable and lives with a sense of security and dignity.

They have even managed to repay a house loan with their earnings from the vegetable business. Geeta and Kempanna express their heartfelt gratitude to Chalice for the sponsorship support, which not only ensured their daughters’ education but also empowered Geeta to become self-reliant and confident.
