Hope and Protection for a Courageous Girl, Kawambwa, Zambia

Funding request: $3,408.03CAD

Critical Need: CN-ZKK1225

Sharon is a gentle and determined young girl living with albinism, a condition that makes her especially vulnerable to the harsh rays of the sun. Now in Grade 6 at St. Odilia Special School, she dreams of becoming a nurse one day so she can care for others who are sick. She loves cooking and reading novels, and despite her challenges, she carries a quiet strength and kindness that touches those around her.

Recently, Sharon developed a painful growth on her forehead. What began as a small concern has become deeply distressing. Medical staff suspect it may be a form of skin cancer, a serious risk for children with albinism due to prolonged sun exposure. She has been given medication to manage the pain and slow the spread of the wound, but her condition requires a biopsy and specialized care at a cancer hospital—services not available at the local facility.

Sharon lives with her single mother and two other family members in a small grass-thatched home left to them by her late father. Her mother works tirelessly selling vegetables to provide daily meals, but her income is irregular and barely enough to meet basic needs. The cost of travel and specialized medical care is far beyond her reach.

Without timely diagnosis and treatment, Sharon’s condition could worsen, threatening not only her health but also her ability to continue her education and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She is a young girl who longs to help heal others; today, she is the one in urgent need of healing.

Your compassionate support can help provide the medical attention she urgently requires and offer her a real chance at recovery and a hopeful future.

Thank you for your kindness, your generosity of heart, and for taking the time to reflect on the needs of vulnerable children like Sharon. Your care and consideration mean more than words can express.
