Helping Christa Walk with Confidence Again, Saint Dominique, Haiti

Funding request: $6,398.81 CAD

Critical Need: CN-HSS0226

Christa is a 22-year-old young woman with a generous heart and a quiet strength that inspires those around her. She lives at the Pierre Salvetti Girls’ Transition House in Port-au-Prince, where she is not only a resident but also a mentor and friend to many younger girls. As a cosmetology student, she is preparing for a future where she can support herself and build a life of independence. She faithfully attends church, cherishes her community, and gives her time to organizing activities and helping others with their studies.

Christa was born with a congenital malformation that has affected her mobility since childhood. In 2018, she underwent surgery and was fitted with a prosthesis for her right leg and foot. For several years, it allowed her to walk and participate more fully in daily life.

Today, however, the old prosthesis is causing her significant pain and complications. It no longer fits properly and has led to additional physical strain. Walking has become increasingly difficult and exhausting. Without urgent intervention and a new prosthesis, Christa risks losing the mobility that has allowed her to pursue her education and care for others.

Beyond the physical challenges, there is also an emotional toll. Adjusting to life with a new prosthesis will require psychological support to help her regain confidence and adapt to the change. As an orphan, Christa depends entirely on the orphanage for her care and well-being. The orphanage itself relies on charitable support to meet even basic needs for its many residents.

A new prosthesis would not only restore Christa’s ability to walk more comfortably—it would restore her independence, dignity, and hope. It would allow her to continue her studies, serve her community, and step confidently into adulthood.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect on Christa’s journey and for holding young women like her in your heart. Your compassion and generosity make it possible for hope to rise, one step at a time.
