This project will address the critical issue of unreliable electricity at Rehema Daycare and Orphan Centre, located in Nairobi’s Korogocho slum. This underserved community faces frequent power outages that disrupt essential services such as classroom lighting, meal preparation, and water pumping, directly affecting the well-being and education of 340 children, including orphans and vulnerable youth from surrounding informal settlements.

The project’s main goal is to install a 24.75KWp Solar PV Hybrid System, providing clean, uninterrupted energy to the institution. This initiative will reduce dependence on costly external power sources and promote environmental sustainability. The expected impact includes improved academic performance through consistent access to electricity, enhanced digital learning, and safer, well-lit classrooms. Additionally, the broader community will benefit from access to the center’s digital library and strengthened security.
The system includes a solar module array, hybrid inverter, and battery storage, ensuring uninterrupted 24/7 clean energy. Beyond stabilizing the power supply, this initiative will promote environmental sustainability and significantly reduce the centre’s operational costs, allowing funds to be redirected toward other critical needs.
Ultimately, the solar energy project is more than infrastructure. It embodies empowerment for a vulnerable community, ensures stability, and offers children the chance to learn, grow, and dream without limits.
