Mother urgently needs implant for arthritic hip.
Funding request: $8,809.19 CAD
Critical Need: CN-BGA0525

Serapia, 54, lives with her husband and the youngest four of her ten children in the semi-rural outskirts of La Paz. They support themselves with small-scale agriculture, raising sheep and chickens and cultivating vegetables. Her husband works seasonal jobs but struggles to find work as he ages. Their daughter, Belinda, has been sponsored through the Guadulupe site since 2018.
Twelve years ago, Serapia fell while harvesting vegetables, resulting in intense pain in her hip. There was no medical centre nearby, so they treated the pain with natural remedies. After three days, she resumed her normal activities without any discomfort or pain.
In 2023, Serapia noticed a slight discomfort when stepping on her right foot but continued her daily routine. But her pain has been intensifying steadily over the years, and now she is heavily limping. Her hip pain forces her to use a cane to stand and spends most of her time either in bed or a chair.
Her adult son, Víctor, took her for an evaluation by an orthopedic traumatology specialist, who diagnosed her with secondary bilateral coxarthrosis– osteoarthritis of both hips likely caused by her fall. The specialist recommended hip joint replacement surgery and explained that the family must buy the hip prosthetic implants for the procedure.
Víctor obtained quotes for the prosthesis, but the costs are very high. They decided to raise funds to cover the hospitalization and surgery expenses and turned to the Guadalupe site for help and advice about the funds for the prosthesis.
The Guadalupe team has therefore requested $8,809.19 CAD to support Víctor to buy his mother’s prosthesis. This will allow the surgical intervention to take place immediately and restore her mobility, and make a positive impact on her quality of life. The site staff will also dedicate funds to supporting Serapia throughout the vital next steps of long-term physical rehabilitation and outpatient consultations.
Your support will restore Serapia’s health, mobility, and independence, and enhance her emotional well-being, bringing joy, satisfaction, and motivation to her and her entire family.
