“Repairing our roof is like repairing our family’s heart.”

When families receive the gift of house construction or repairs, it isn’t just wood, nails, or sheets of metal, it is hope and comfort. The Philippines faces powerful storms each year. The communities experience heavy rainfall and strong winds that cause damage to their homes.

Three families in the Philippines were overjoyed to receive repairs through the gift catalogue thanks to the generosity of Chalice’s donors.

Yurie and her family used to dread the storms that hit the Philippines every year. The nine-year-old sponsored girl, and her family of seven, live in a house inherited from her grandparents. But it was old, especially the roof. When the torrential rains hit, or the extreme heat sweltered, the family had no relief from the harsh weather conditions.

“Amidst their concerns, a ray of hope emerged through the gift catalogue,” says Belinda, a leader in Chalice’s Bulacan site in the Philippines. “With the generosity of compassionate sponsors, their dilapidated roof was replaced, breathing new life into their humble abode.”

“A roof over our head is more than just shelter, it’s a foundation of security and peace for my children,” says Emilita, Yurie’s mother, “Repairing our roof is like repairing our family’s heart. Thank you.”

Princess is a mother of five boys, including sponsored students John-John and Andrei. Her husband works in construction but never had the means to do his most important project: fixing their roof.

“Our small house had many holes, and the only way we could prevent rain from leaking inside was by putting a large plastic bag temporarily,” says Princess.

They too received a home repair gift from the gift catalogue. “Because of your help, our problem was solved, and our house,” she says, “especially the roofs of our living room and bedroom, became better. It has made a significant difference in our lives, especially for the safety and comfort of my family.”

“Now, the children can do their schoolwork properly, and we can sleep well because there’s no more rain leaking inside the house.”

Robertlyn and her husband Angelo faced a similar challenge. Angelo works in construction, but the small house they share with their four children had a leaky kitchen roof.

“When it rained, water leaked into our kitchen, making cooking hard,” Robertlyn says. “Sometimes, our food even got wet.”

“But thanks to you all,” she continues, “our problem is fixed. We are very happy because now we won’t worry when it rains, as water won’t leak into our kitchen area anymore.”
