Funding Request: $2,045.42 CAD
Critical Need: CNKMR1224
Marget is a single mother of four children, three of whom have Chalice sponsors. In 2020, after some family turmoil, Margret moved with her children into the area of Chalice’s Meru sponsor site. There, she began her own grocery business. Her children left school after the move, but since being sponsored, they are all back in class.
One evening in November 2024, Margret was on her way home from buying stock for her small business at the nearby market. She was attacked by thugs with machetes which left her with serious injuries, with both hands broken, and all her stock stolen.
She was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, treated, and discharged. Her doctors told her she would need bone reconstruction surgery, but that comes with a private cost. Knowing she couldn’t afford it, Margret went home and tried to manage with only pain-relievers. But she lived in extraordinary pain.
The Meru site staff knew that Margret couldn’t continue living like that, so they arranged for her to return to the hospital for inpatient care. After a few days getting her stable, the hospital referred her for specialist treatment and the reconstruction surgery she needed. At the time of writing, she is still hospitalized and recovering in the hospital.
The Meru site requested $2,045.42 CAD to cover Margret’s medical treatment and help her restart her business. These funds cover her admission, consultations, hospitalizations, follow-up appointments, X-rays, and a small amount of capital for her to buy more grocery inventory.
