Funding Request: $1,671.61 CAD
Critical Need: CNPTT1124
Ralph is 20 years old and in his second year of college, pursuing computer engineering with the support of his Chalice sponsor and the Tondo site. Ralph is also highly active in sports, and his team recently won a basketball tournament. Ralph lives with his family of eight, supported by his father Ben, who works as a security guard.
Ralph’s fever began in October 2024, while visiting his grandmother. His fever lasted two days, and he was feeling very weak. He asked to be taken to the hospital. He was admitted and diagnosed with acute viral hepatitis. He stayed in the hospital for three days, and the doctors discharged him. But he had to return the next day because he’d developed jaundice.
The doctors faced challenges in ruling out gallstones, hepatitis, or typhoid. They treated him for typhoid for six days as an inpatient. When they discharged him again, they prescribed a month of medication and scheduled a follow-up.
At the follow-up, Ralph tested negative for hepatitis B, but his liver is still showing signs of stress. This is treatable, and Ralph will continue liver medication for another month.
Ralph’s parents now face medical expenses for his hospitalizations, medicine, and lab tests, totaling $1,671.61 CAD. Knowing that these costs are beyond his parents’ humble budget, the Tondo sponsor site staff have requested to cover the full amount.
