Peter’s Hernia Surgery, Nairobi, Kenya

Funding request: $3,221.15 CAD

Critical Need: CN-KNN1124B

Peter is a 58-year-old father of four who ran a small eatery for meat bites and soup, which was a vital source of income for his family. But Peter’s recent medical emergency forced him to stop working. His wife, Mercy, became the breadwinner with her roadside snack stand.

Despite her hard work and dedication, Mercy’s income is often insufficient to meet the family’s basic needs, as it fluctuates with customer demand. They are grateful for their daughter Cynthia’s Chalice sponsor and the Nairobi site. Even with these supports, the family struggles to afford essential expenses such as food, healthcare, and education for their children.

In April 2024, Peter started experiencing severe abdominal pain and difficulties with bowel movements, prompting a visit to the hospital. There, doctors diagnosed him with ulcers and prescribed medication. His symptoms intensified. An ultrasound revealed a reducible left inguinal hernia. The doctor recommended urgent surgery to correct the hernia.

As his condition continued to deteriorate, he suffered from excruciating pain while eating, bending, and urinating, severely limiting his daily activities. He also struggled with urination, and his inability to lift heavy objects made him unable to work, creating added financial strain on him and his family.

The site has therefore requested a budget of $3,221.15 CAD so that they can arrange for Peter to have his hernia surgery. The budget covers his doctor’s and OT fee, anesthetist, three days inpatient care, and clinic reviews.

The site will ensure regular follow-up visits to the hospital to assess Peter’s recovery and address any possible complications. These appointments will be crucial in checking his progress and ensuring that his health continues to improve after surgery.

Your support would not only alleviate their immediate financial burden but also provide them with hope and stability for the future.
